Assessment Issue Rubrics Essay -- Teaching Education
Assessment Issue form of addresss This word takes on a bit of a different perspective when it comes to the issue of using rubrics as a tool of assessment. When the topic of rubrics has come up in the professional life of this writer, it has been followed with a negative connotation. This article speaks positively of the use of rubrics. The writer of the article Heidi Andrade uses rubrics not only to justify school-age childs grades, but also to assist the students in properly completing an assignment. What the author of the articles says makes a lot of sense. A rubric shows a student exactly what is needed to obtain a high score on any given assignment. A good rubric will effectively do this task. The rubric can also serve as a reminder to a student that might be having difficulty recalling an item for an interrogatory or for a paper. The author refers to rubrics as Instructional Rubrics. According to the author An Instructional Rubric is usually a one- or two-page do cument that describes varying levels of quality, from polished to poor, for a specific assignment. It is usually used with relatively complex assignment, such as a long-term project, an essay, or a research paper. When an Instructional Rubric is used, a student is now given the knowledge of what is expected from them, all to often this does not occur. Sometimes educators, without meaning to do harm, just expect the student to know how to do a task without directions. This is almost certainly settin...

An Analysis of Yeatsââ¬â¢ An Irish Airman Foresees His Death Essay
An Analysis of Yeats An Irish throwaway Foresees His DeathIt is an unspoken assumption that when a country goes to war the men fighting are honored and also that there is a large amount of support given to the soldiers from that particular community. What is often over-looked is the fact that galore(postnominal) of the men, who are partaking in battle, are in fact, boys who do not even know what they are fighting for. Also, the community is not always supportive and stabilising unless they see a personal benefit that provide affect them in a positive way as an outcome of the war. In An Irish Airman Foresees His Death, Yeats introduces us to a man who is fighting in the war, not knowing what he is fighting for. Yeats also shows us, from a soldiers mountain point, how a soldier feels while defending a country he does not feel any loyalty to, and how a soldier views the community he is laying his life on the line to protect. It is apparent immediately in the beginning of the poem that this airman has a very bad attitude nearly the way this war is going. I know that I shall meet my fate, Somewhere among the clouds above (Yeats 154). The airman is saying that he knows, or senses, the fact that he will not make it out alive of this war. The reference made to the clouds above is simply reinforcing the fact that he is an airman in the war. These first two lines truly set the tone for a poem that turns out to be a very somber, depressing piece of work. These two lines are symbolic of the airmans attitude and take on life in general. The third and fourth lines of the poem, Those that I fight I do not hate, Those that I guard I do not love (Yeats 154), tell us how he feels about the soldiers he is fighting against, and also how he feels a... ... signs on life worth sprightliness in himself and sees no hope for a world where young men can sacrifice themselves for the good of their country, and in response, get virtually no response from the citizens at large. Th is poem was written in memory of Lady Gregorys son, Major Robert Gregory, who died on the Italian front in January of 1918. Its purpose is to show how negatively charged war can be and how unjust much of what happens during a war actually is. It does not make sense that a soldier may not even like the people he is fighting next to, and that he may be able to relate better to the enemy than to his own troops. Yeats, by writing this poem, made the reader conscious of the negative aspects of war. Works Cited Yeats, William Butler. An Irish Airman Foresees His Death. Aeneas Fights With Turnus Essays -- Aeneid Virgil Essays
Aeneas Fights With TurnusIn the Aeneid, Virgil describes many human qualities, problems and characteristics. Some examples which I wish to illustrate can be found in the end of epic, in the scene of the final duel between Aeneas and Turnus. Virgil also introduces a novel idea in his work. Both sides, the Trojans and the Latins, are portrayed as horrible people. Even though Aeneas is delegated to win, and he is the hero of the work, the opposing force, Turnus, is not portrayed as evil, but rather like a noble person in a very hard situation. Virgil deals as much with physical and psychological problems Turnus faces, being an honest and noble man, as he does with Aeneass problems.By the time the battle begins, Turnus knows that he will lose. His sister, who was given some divine powers by Jupiter earlier, helped him during the battle before the final duel, but then she is called onward by Jupiter. Turnus knew even before the battle started that he will lose, because it was fated for Aeneas to receive the land and marry Lavinia. He was urged by King Latinus and Lavinia herself not to rubbish but as the poet says, Words cannot check the violence of Turnus (Book XII, 62). Who was Turnuss violence, or anger against? I do not think that it was Aeneas. Turnus was angry at the fate that forced him to give up the woman he loved to some newcomer. He could not accept that. Virgil is showing that anger can bugger off a person to the most irrational decisions. Turnus went, knowingly, to die because he was angry at fate, which cannot be changed. Aeneas faces a similar problem when he has to leave Dido -- fate is against his desires, but Aeneas, chooses fates way, while Turnus chooses his desires. This quality is not only portrayed in the ... ...ght of Pallass belt upon his murderer. He decides to avenge him, and visit Turnus for his crimes. Here, justice prevails everyplace mercy, and repentance does not achieve any results. It is difficult to see how in later times V irgil might have been referred to as a Christian before Christ. He clearly here states that Aeneas, who was a very humane hero, kills Turnus to avenge his friend despite the fact that Turnus repented his sins. At the end, justice triumphs over feelings like mercy. Both men, Aeneas and Turnus are shown to be bound by justice. Turnus cannot accept Aeneass usurping of his wedding rites, and is prepared to fight and die for it. Aeneas cannot accept the slaughter of his friend, and essential avenge him. And even though only one of them is the hero of the epic, both follow a similar path through the work, and both get what they were delegate to by fate.

George Orwells Nineteen Eighty-Four 1984 :: Free Essays on 1984
George Orwells Nineteen Eighty-Four 1984 tyranny is a word that has many definitions that are true to their own time and their own society. one of the most common definitions used world wide is very complex, but very understandable when you are done reading the book 1984 by George Orwell. Totalitarianism is a system of government and ideology in which all social, political, economic, intellectual, cultural and spiritual activities are subordinated to the purpose of the rules of the rulers of a demesne. Several important features distinguish totalitarianism, a form of autocracy peculiar to the 20th century, from suck order forms as despotism, absolutism, and tyranny. In the older forms of totalitarianism, people could work and live on their own as long as they didnt try to enter the political recite of the society in any way. In the newer forms of totalitarianism, the people of the society are reliant on other people that are higher then them in every thing they do in everyday l ife.In Oceania, the world or society in the book 1984, the life of the state was very different from everything that we are used to in everyday life in this time. In Oceania the state life was all by a man that they called Big Brother that everyone worked for, lived for, and did all of their everyday things just to make him happy. The sate would say just what and when they could do. In the form of the society, the people really didnt get to live in any true type of society. They werent a loud to talk to others just about what was Knight 2really on their minds, they couldnt thing about the past or what is really the history, and they couldnt have any kind of sack out life or sexual activity with anyone. In the form of daily life, the people had to go to work and do whatever the Big Brother verbalise they had to do. In many instances they had to go around and change the newspapers so that the true history of the world wouldnt be revealed to anyone but the top people of the society. No personal life was a loud to take place. The thought police had to know and did know everything that the people did or even thought of doing.Oceania compares to the totalitarian state of the 20th century very well.
